I know very little about the Suspiria remake other than Tilda Swinton and Radiohead's Thom Yorke are involved. Sounds like an English appropriation of the original film's Italian-ness. Kinda bizarre when many principal characters were already American in the original film, including the main antagonist role I assume Swinton played. Radiohead is a fair replacement for Goblin. Yorke will bring a lot more influences and technology to the score, which I'm sure is faithful to Goblin's skill, tone and spirit.
But this isn't a total recommendation because many films are only partly good. I don't know enough about the director or young cast other than Chloe Grace Moretz, who was okay in Refn's Suspiria-inspired "Neon Demon".
It doesn't really bother me when they make these reboots because they rarely are sequels or faithful enough to reflect badly on the original. What does bug me is when everything that works in the new film worked better in the original. Like the 1970s Body Snatcher remake is only a solid watch because its a well-staffed beat-for-beat colorized, modernized repeat of the first movie. I much prefer the version directed by Abel Ferrara in the 90s. It served the same purpose and borrowed, but it at least made major changes and created an original experience. And it even had a different title to stand on its own as a spinoff or distant relative. And this distance makes it closer to the original because it is also original.
How the trailer will tell us if its a valuable film or not is if it feels like the original without having to look like the original. That Suspiria style of cinematography/production design has become famous in the internet indie hipster generation. It would be blashemous to base the success of the new film on the most overvalued part of the old. Plus you can literally turn on American Gods or Scream Queens, American Horror Story or any neo-noir type "hipster" media and see any basic D.P. mimic Suspiria's style. This 2nd Suspiria (even though its technically the 4th in the Suspira series) better have its own damn look and style and sound. I hope it just uses the same story shell and thats the only common ground besides being a high quality commercial art film.
I admit I do care about these movies I probably won't even watch because they will influence so many audiences til the end of time. If its a pointless remake of a classic, it should be as good as it can be.
