I'm looking for something to review

Skimmed through Ant-Man, which I've yet to watch and will keep it that way. How do the masses not realize that the Marvel films are all the same formula? Or maybe thats the appeal. The same cameos. The same cinematography. The same sense of humor and low level of wit. The same military/espionage plot-meets-70's cop show format. The same "wacky" casting of TV actors, rappers, comedians and washed up nostalgia names. Its so frigging old. And its all a cheap fill for the films Warner Bros made with Superman & Batman 30 years ago. Thats why I respect DC for moving ahead and creating something new even if its less lucrative.

WB is a weird studio. They put out some radically weird, experimental and fashion-forward mainstream fluff like Suicide Squad and Blade Runner 2049 but then edit them and poorly market them. And their output is mostly very grim, graphic, old Hollywood style in contrast to the bubbly, optimistic, offensively dumb films out there like Baywatch and Kong: Skull Island.

P.S. I said "Fuck Franchises" but obviously there are a few I wouldn't mind continuing. I think The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels are blessed. Its the only series that has developed a complex "anthology" style where different filmmakers, genres, continuities & multiple studios have come on for one or two films and then it goes back into hibernation. I like when the franchise gets a new film when someone actually has a new twist or vision to offer and not just because the story is owned and pimped by a multinational bank. Because the franchise is privately owned and leased to studios.

I'd take a Godfather 4 just for Coppola to work or have an actual movie for adults be in the mainstream film conversation again. Franchises really only work when the original creator stays attached or an established great director comes to add ideas.
